Wormy Apples
Ingredients:
6 medium apples
1/2 cup maple syrup
1/3 cup water
Dash salt
2 TBS butter
1 tsp lemon juice
1/4 tsp cinnamon
12 gummy worms
2 (1″) strips lemon peel
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
- Core apple but do not to cut all the way through to bottom. Peel the top 1/3 of apple. Stand apples in baking pan.
- Bring to a boil the maple syrup, water, salt, cinnamon, lemon juice and peel in small saucepan. Pour over apples then cover them loosely with foil.
- Bake for 30 minutes then remove from oven. Place 1 teaspoon butter inside the core of each apple. Baste apples with the juices from the pan then cover and bake for another 15 minutes or until tender when poked with a fork. Cool.
- Cut 2 worm holes from outside of apple through to the core then thread the gummy worms halfway through holes.
